Wolf Voices: Inspiring Femininity

I'm honoured to be showcasing my work in Shelf Life Books until the end of November. Here is a little background on the pieces and some images. Please stop by and check them out if you have a moment.

"WITHIN EVERY WOMAN THERE IS A WILD AND NATURAL CREATURE, A POWERFUL FORCE, FILLED WITH GOOD INSTINCTS, PASSIONATE CREATIVITY, AND AGELESS KNOWING. HER NAME IS WILD WOMAN, BUT SHE IS AN ENDANGERED SPECIES. THOUGH THE GIFTS OF WILDISH NATURE COME TO US AT BIRTH, SOCIETY'S ATTEMPT TO 'CIVILIZE' US INTO RIGID ROLES HAS PLUNDERED THIS TREASURE, AND MUFFLED THE DEEP, LIFE-GIVING MESSAGES OF OUR OWN SOULS. WITHOUT WILD WOMAN, WE BECOME OVER-DOMESTICATED, FEARFUL, UNCREATIVE, TRAPPED". – ESTES

About Inspiring Femininity

Images of feminine beauty flood our magazines, television screens and Google searches, while rules for feminine behavior are whispered to every little girl ... but what if C.P. Estes was on to something when she wrote in her book, Women Who Run with the Wolves, that society’s definition of the feminine was actually resulting in women hiding their true essence?

A power and beauty that each and every woman holds. An essence that is unique and different for each female.

The images captured for Inspiring Femininity are a mixture of digital and film. Taken from 2010 — 2016, these photographs incorporate women residing in Australia or Canada who have undergone a process to unravel their unique female essence. The images question the real essence of femininity and inspire an alternative view to a “one size fits all approach” or prescribed recipe of beauty. The experiences captured for Inspiring Femininity invite the visiting observer to witness the female experience and acknowledge the beautiful and unique powers within all women.
